For many reasons, Afytos is a unique place in Kassandra, and perhaps throughout Halkidiki. It’s located on the northeast coast of the peninsula, between Nea Fokea and Kallithea. Afytos is also ideal as a base to tour both the eastern and western parts of the peninsula, with its great advantage being the proximity of Kallithea (2-3 minutes drive) and its beautiful beaches. Polychrono is only 13km away and Thessaloniki is 80km away.

Situated on a hill, with a unique view of the bay and the sea blue, this place exudes a Mediterranean spirit and reminds of Dubrovnik and Dalmatia due to its narrow streets and stone facades.

The beach in Afytos is characterized by turquoise water, so the view of it from the height leaves you breathless. It’ll take a 10-minute walk down or up the hill to reach the beach from the accommodation, and it can also be reached by car. There are two beaches.

Varkes Beach is located to the left as looking towards the sea, it’s not large, it’s sandy on the coast and in the water, and the sea is extremely calm. It consists of two parts. The arranged part has with deck chairs and parasols in front of the bar on the rock, owned by the famous Sima from Leskovac. The second part of the beach is also sandy and free for anyone with personal beach equipment. There are a large number of moored boats in this part because of the extremely calm sea. During the high season, both parts of this beach are full of visitors.

The central part of the beach in Afytos is very long and poorly visited because the rocks are mostly rough. Trails to the shallows were made in some places, but this part is certainly not recommended for families with children.

The beach towards Kallithea (Liosi) also has a crystal clear sea, but while on the coast there is sand, the entrance is mostly rocky for 2-3m. The sea is calm in this part as well, with not too many visitors, and the beach is long, so if you want to relax and seclude, it’s a perfect choice for you.

Afytos is ideal for romantic people and everyone looking for a nice place as a base for touring Kassandra. There are beautiful beaches nearby as well as places for those searching for more fun, like Kallithea, only a short drive away, known for the best clubs on Kassandra.

There are shops, restaurants with fresh fish, seafood and traditional Greek specialties, taverns and fast-food restaurants, sweets and souvenir shops. Particularly interesting are the restaurants and cafes on the cliff, with a fantastic sea view. And for those who prefer more favourable supplying, theMasoutis supermarket is about 3km away.

The atmosphere in the place is also authentic, especially in the evening when tourists from other places stop in Afytos. The streets are narrow and the lighting is very nice, so the stone facades and paved streets seem romantic and take you back in time. Some 18th-century houses have been preserved and the small squares are beautifully decorated and full of flowers.

Afytos will leave breathless all aficionados of ancient, authentic-Greek and Mediterranean charm, romance and couples in love.
