A harbor that offers much more
Keramoti is a small place, better known as the harbor from where ferries depart to Thasos. However, this place offers more than just the harbor itself. To our pleasant surprise, it has a very long and wide sandy beach with a Blue Flag that it certainly deserves.
Paradise beach and pine forest
The beach is several kilometers long, very wide (about 50m), sandy on the shore and in the water, with a long shallow area. There are several modern beach bars on the beach where you can sit on sun loungers and umbrellas. In addition to the beach bars, there are beach volleyball nets, toys for children, and canopies. Some bars are large and can accommodate up to 2000 visitors, and at night they function as clubs. The beach has the finest flour-like sand, clear water, transparent to the bottom where there are countless shells. It is quite far from the harbor (hence visitors to Thasos do not know it exists), so the water is very clear and clean. Along the entire beach, there is a pine forest with plenty of shaded parking spots for cars. The beach itself does not have much natural shade.
Facilities in the village and stay tips
In Keramoti, there are several souvenir shops, boutiques, a few cafes, taverns, and restaurants, supermarkets, and fast-food restaurants. The place is not known for its nightlife because it is almost non-existent. There are quite a lot of mosquitoes, so it is advisable to bring electric mosquito repellents from home, as well as creams for evening walks.
Excellent connectivity and location
Keramoti is located about 210 km from Thessaloniki and 40 km from Kavala, lying in the delta of the Nestos River. It is in the southeastern part of the region of Macedonia, in the southernmost part of the prefecture of Kavala. It is only 6 nautical miles from Thasos (a 35-minute ferry ride).
Authentic spirit of a fishing village
A small, authentic, fishing village is gradually developing and slowly growing into a typical Greek seaside town with around 2000 inhabitants. Due to the large number of fishermen who move to this place from other countries, the town is known for the large number of fish taverns that always offer fresh fish on their menu, as well as fresh fish that can be bought cheaply at the port directly from the fishermen. The place also has a bank, post office, primary and secondary school, as well as two tourist kiosks for information. One is located on the dock in the harbor and provides all the information related to the town and its surroundings, while the other is in the eastern part of the village, behind the secondary school, and offers information to nature lovers and anyone interested in various bird species, rare animals, and vegetation that can be found in the vicinity of Keramoti. Keramoti is one of the favorite destinations for nature lovers.
