Kefalonia boasts excellent roads and superb signage, as well as a very well-organized local and intercity bus transport system.
If you have not arrived by your own means of transport and do not wish to rent a car, you can use the bus transport for getting around the island and visiting its beaches and numerous sites.
Bus to and from the airport
The “Anna Pollatou” International Airport on Kefalonia is connected by a regular bus line on the route: AIRPORT - LASSI - ARGOSTOLI ARGOSTOLI - LASSI - AIRPORT

Bus transport from Lassi
Lassi is one of the most popular holiday bases, with excellent connections to Argostoli, nearby beaches, and major attractions on the island. Prices and exact schedules may vary, so it’s best to always check on the official website at the provided link, while we will provide approximate departures and prices.
- Argostoli and beaches Ai Helis and Ammes: During the season, buses run daily, every hour (starting from 8 a.m.). The one-way ticket price is around 2€.
- Myrtos Beach: Daily departure around 9:30 a.m. (with a change in Argostoli and a mini-bus to the beach itself). The last return from the beach is around 5 p.m.
- Ticket price to the beach: around 8€
- Ticket price to Divarata (if you prefer to walk to the beach): around 6€
- Assos: One daily departure around 10:30 a.m. (with a change in Argostoli), returning at 4:30 p.m. (note: no service on weekends). The ticket price is around 8€.
- Sami, Agia Efimia, and Melissani Lake: Up to three departures daily (with a change in Argostoli). The ticket price is around 6€.
- Fiskardo: One daily departure. The one-way ticket price is around 8.5€.
- Skala and Poros: One daily departure. The ticket price is around 7€.
- Monastery of St. Gerasim: The ticket price is around 4€.
Departures from Argostoli
A slightly wider selection of departures is available from Argostoli, where you can go to:
- Lourdas Beach for 2€
- Svoronate and Pesada for just 1.80€
- From Lourdas, you can be taken to Trapezaki Beach for 1.50€
Transport to the Paliki Peninsula (Lixouri)
As mentioned, a ferry from Argostoli can take you to Lixouri on the Paliki peninsula, from where a bus can transport you to the most famous beaches, such as Xi, Kounopetra, and Vatsa for 1.80€.

Finally, you will have the least hassle during your holiday in Kefalonia if you secure some means of transport for yourself. We recommend using your own or a rented car. If that is not possible, with a little planning, you can make a good combination for visiting the most prominent places and beaches, regardless of where on the island you decide to stay.
