More than 30 million tourists visited Greece in 2017, breaking the record in the history of greek tourism.

Greece has been known as a tourist destination since ancient Greece, and mass tourism began to develop in the sixties of the last century.

In 2008, Greece was visited by 17 million tourists and each year several million more, in order to have almost doubled number in less than 10 years.

In 2005, China declared Greece the number one choice by the Chinese people for a favorite tourist destination, and the Greek National Tourism Organization opened offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

Previous years, the majority of tourists in Greece came from Germany, and after the Germans are British people.

It is interesting that tourists from Serbia are not among the top ten most numerous tourists in Greece.

The list of the top ten countries from which most tourists travel to Greece are the following: Germany, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Italy, France, Romania, Poland and America. It is estimated that more than 3 million Germans visited Greece 2016, about 3 million Britains, one million and a half of Italians, a million and three hundred thousand French, a million Romanians, nearly a million Poles, something more than 700,000 Americans and around 700,000 Serbs.

On this year’s New York Times list, Greece (Athens) is ranked in 52 destinations to be visited in 2017, and Santorini Island is ranked number 1 in the world.

The number of tourists from Bulgaria and Romania has doubled in recent years compared to previous years.

Except thousands of kilometers of coastline, tens of thousands of beaches and thousands of islands, Greece has 752 thermal springs, 51 marinas, 24 ski centers and nearly 200 km of ski slopes, numerous archaeological sites, museums and monasteries that also attract tourists from all over the world to Greece.
