More and more of our tourists are making a stop for lunch or overnight on their way to Greece. Depending on where the starting point is, they choose to stay somewhere halfway.

We asked you, as our followers and guests, to recommend good places for lunch, a quick break, or overnight stay based on your personal experience, and here are the responses and recommendations we received.

The most recommendations are for North Macedonia, particularly for Dojran, and below are your answers.
Regarding accommodation, you recommend the following:

  • Bed & Breakfast Delikates Stojakovo (clean, friendly hosts, highly praised)
  • Chavdar Apartments
  • Studio KN, Dojran
  • Panini Boat Hotel on Lake Mladost, which is much more affordable than Romantika and kids love it. They have a restaurant but no pool
  • Villa Stefani, Dojran
  • Tiki Apartments in Bogorodica, 800m before the Evzoni border crossing
  • Dojran, above all. Close to the border crossing with no crowds, offering a wide selection of quality and affordable accommodation.
  • Dojran near Istatova, the famous Partizan goalkeeper, a wonderful place
  • Hotel Pamela, Negotino
  • Dan Dar, Dorjan
  • Romantik Hotel on Lake Mladost
  • Gevgelija, Migato Apartments
  • Sky Hotel in Gevgelija
  • Hotel Nastov in Veles, on a Mladost lake

Many tourists who take a break on their way to Greece spend the night in Gevgelija in order to see the situation with the crowd at the border via webcam before leaving the apartment.
Chavdar apartments are brand new, comfortable apartments in Gevgelija, with their own parking. They have two separate bedrooms and a living room with a kitchen. Overnight prices range from €45 to €60, depending on the number of people. They are located in a new residential building.

You can also take a break at the Monument to the Serbian Army and Allies in Evzonio, just 300m after entering Greece.

In Serbia, you can take a break in Vranje, Vladičin Han, or at Lake Vlasina. Lake Vlasina is a little-known gem of natural beauty, so consider visiting it. You can read more about the lake in The road to Greece through Lake Vlasina and Bulgaria.

From Novi Sad, we take a break in Vranje, at Garni M or Good Place accommodations. That’s right in the middle of the journey…

A good choice for an overnight stay can also be Thessaloniki and Skopje.
In Thessaloniki, there is a wide selection of hotels in the city center. As a budget-friendly and popular choice, we always mention Hotel Pella, or for a more luxurious option, the El Greko Hotel, although you can find a large number of hotels online. If you stay in Thessaloniki, check our recommendations on how to spend a day, evening, or weekend in the articles A day in Thessaloniki and Weekend in Thessaloniki.

Our favorite accommodation in North Macedonia is Popova Kula near Demir Kapija. It’s a slightly more expensive accommodation that also includes a winery. Excellent food, great accommodation, location, and wines.
Another luxurious property that offers excellent food, wine, and accommodation is the Royal Quin Maria Winery in Demir Kapija. The winery was founded by King Alexander Karađorđević and is named after Queen Maria, the king’s wife.

When it comes to restaurants, the most recommendations by far go to the Javor Agapi restaurant in Mrzenci near Gevgelija, known for its lamb.

You have also recommended:

  • Groš Restaurant in Leskovac
  • Cream Restaurant in Gevgelija, offering a 10% discount for the 2023 season to guests of the Nikana agency, members of the Facebook page, or members of the Live from Greece group.
  • Graniko Restaurant in Dojran
  • Fuk Tak Restaurant in Dojran
  • Madam Pizzeria in Vladičin Han
  • Vodenica Mulino Restaurant in Skopje
  • Ruga Restaurant in Thessaloniki
