We are aware that among you there are those who enjoy casting a fishing line during their summer vacation.

So far, a permit for recreational fishing in Greece has not been required, but they have announced that they will introduce it soon. Fishing will no longer be free, but the exact date has not been specified yet.

Fishing in the sea in Greece is allowed from the shore, as long as it is not a port, spawning ground, fish farm, military facility, prison, or similar. In that case, there would be a visible sign prohibiting it (usually a pictogram).

You may bring fishing rods, many of our guests do so.

Fishing is allowed with a hook and from a boat up to half a nautical mile from the shore. The same applies to rivers and lakes.

Also, no permit is required to operate a boat up to 5 meters in length and with a motor power of up to 30 horsepower. Registration of such vessels is also not necessary.

The ideal time for fishing in the Greek sea is outside the main season (April, May, part of June, and then again in September and October). In July and August, when the sea is warmest and crowded with people and boats, the catch is not very good.

What should not be caught?

Be careful not to fish for octopuses and other marine animals that are too young. An octopus must weigh at least half a kilogram.

Our advice is definitely not to fish for marine animals for fun, as they are already on the brink of extinction.
