Markets in Thessaloniki?

If you are in Thessaloniki and want to shop at the market, which we highly recommend for the diverse and very affordable shopping, you can check when and where they are held in our text here: Guide to markets in Thessaloniki - where to buy local products. Since green markets are not stationary but are in a different part of the city every day, the list is too long for this text, so you can check the exact schedule in the text above.
There are also stationary markets, and we suggest you visit one in the city center, at Aristotle’s Square - Kapani Market.

How to find a market in the place where you are vacationing?

Here are a few tips:

  • Markets are usually organized in larger parking lots, squares, near ports, or sports fields.
  • Ask local residents, bakers, or fruit vendors - everyone knows when market day is.
  • In many places, fruit vendors drive trucks through settlements - especially if there is no organized market.

Why visit the local market?

Markets in Greece are not just a place to shop - it is an experience of local life. There are people, dialects, scents, and flavors that a supermarket cannot offer. Tourists love them because of:

  • lower prices of fresh products
  • local specialties (cheese, olives, spices)
  • affordable clothing and accessories
  • authentic contact with Greek culture
