Bujurdi - the most popular Greek appetizer that you can prepare quickly and easily. If you have ever dined in a Greek tavern, you have surely tasted bujurdi - the famous warm appetizer made of baked cheese, tomatoes, and peppers served while still sizzling, with bread toasted on the grill. We have prepared a video, take a look at the recipe:
Ingredients (for 1 individual portion)
- White cheese (feta): about 100g (slice)
- Cheese: about 50g
- Tomato: half of a medium-sized tomato
- Pepper: half a pepper (bell or hot, as desired)
- Olive oil: 1-2 teaspoons
- Seasonings: oregano and optionally ground hot pepper
Note: if you don’t have Greek feta, you can use another type of white cheese.
- It is important that it is not too soft.
Preparation:
In a small ceramic or heatproof dish, place a piece of feta cheese at the bottom, sprinkle with oregano, then layer a few pieces of tomato and pepper on top. Place a slice of white cheese over it, then arrange the rest of the vegetables. Finally, add grated or sliced cheese.
Seasoning: Drizzle everything with a little olive oil and sprinkle with oregano (and ground pepper if you like it spicy).
Baking:
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 15 minutes, until the white cheese softens, and the cheese on top melts and browns.
- In an air fryer: At 180°C for about 10-12 minutes.
- In the microwave: Just 3 minutes (700W).
