Antisamos Beach
Few beaches have become famous worldwide thanks to a movie, but Antisamos has - scenes from “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” were filmed right here, and the cove where it is located looks equally magical and mesmerizing in person as it does on screen.
Antisamos Beach is regularly listed among the most beautiful and famous beaches in Kefalonia, along with Myrtos, Petani, and Xi beaches.
Appearance and atmosphere
Located on the eastern coast, just four kilometers from the port of Sami, and about thirty kilometers away from the main town of Argostoli. It has been awarded the Blue Flag for years, a testament to its clean waters and well-maintained surroundings.
The beach is pebbly, with small white stones cascading into turquoise waters. The water is exceptionally clear, with shades of light turquoise transitioning to deep blue as it deepens. The beach is surrounded by hills full of greenery, mostly pine trees, giving the bay a tropical feel.
Antisamos is situated in a sheltered cove, giving it a tranquil and picturesque character. There is an observation point above the beach that offers a beautiful view of the entire bay - a perfect spot for photography.
Facilities and services
The beach is fully organized and offers everything needed for a full day’s stay. About half, or perhaps even more, of the coast is occupied by three bars with sun loungers.
The other part of the beach is left for those who prefer to use their own equipment and stay away from the crowds.
The beach offers you three beach bars, taverns, showers, changing rooms, a large parking lot right behind the beach, as well as opportunities for various water sports such as pedal boats, jet skis, paddle boarding, and other activities.
What to pay attention to
Antisamos Beach does not have a long shallow area, so it is not ideal for small non-swimmers. During the season, it can get quite crowded, which is not surprising considering the beauty and popularity of the beach. The road leading to it is winding but paved and easily accessible. On the right side of the beach, in a quieter area, nudists are sometimes present, so it’s good to know this in advance.
Points of interest
Antisamos gained worldwide fame after the filming of “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,” which brought international attention to Kefalonia. The colors of the sea in this bay are often described as a “tropical palette” - from milky turquoise in the shallows, to light blue, to deep blue in the depths.
