Weather in preseason
One of the most common questions we receive is related to the weather in June and September. If you ignore the fact that it is impossible to give a specific answer to this question because there is simply no rules when it comes to climate, especially in recent years, I'll try to give you as close description of the weather in June and September.
Traditionally, the first swimming start from Easter. Given that this holiday has a sliding date, the "official opening of the season" starts in April or May.
In my opinion, until the middle of May, swimming in the Aegean Sea is not pleasant. English tourists in May greatly enjoying the beach and swimming in this island, and so this is the individual thing.
By the end of May, the weather warms up considerably so Thassos by then is the favorite destination even for families with small children. However, the sun at that time still is not really strong, and after leaving the water you must wrap in a towel, and even a slight breeze can be unpleasant.
June is already great month for holiday on Thassos. The average temperature is around 26 degrees and the water temperature is around 23 degrees. During the night the temperature is lowered to 17 degrees. It is important to know that in June it is necessary to bring with you warm clothes, shoes and thin jackets for evening walks! Air conditioning in hotels generally will not be required.
The air is drier during the spring than in the winter.
Rain usually rare, but note that not all years are the same and it has happend that month of June is rainy, although rarely.
Jun has about 13 hours of sunshine so that your stay on this island can be used not only for swimming and the beach but also for trekking, hiking, visiting mountain villages, monasteries and archeological sites, but also enjoy the garden with panoramic views.
Another advantage of June are very clean beach and clear water, crystal clear and transparent waters and the most beautiful colors.
September is the similar to June, with the average air temperature somewhat lower (24 per day and up to 14 at night). Sea is howeve, warmer in September than in June, and the average temperature is around 24 degrees and the water is very pleasant for swimming, paddling, and scuba diving and exploring the deep sea. The wind is stronger in September than in June, but still generally not unpleasant.
But if you want the cleanest sea, the beautiful color of the water, the most beautiful sunsets, fishing, romance, peace and quiet on the beach, reading your favorite book in the shade without fuss, beautiful beaches and coves all to yourself, then the month of September is the one which I strongly recommend.
