Our description

EThe Kassandra peninsula has a very nice coast, but people tend to compare it to Sithonia and Thassos so it's often underrated. That's not completely unjustified though, because the urbanization and the construction of hotels on the coast have disrupted the natural state of the coast, and some of its most beautiful parts have become less available for the visitors. An example of this is the area of Sani as well as Kallithea and the coast between Kriopigi and Kallithea.

Kassandra is not very well known for its beaches, but if you like to explore there are certainly some nice ones where you can have a great time and which are worth visiting. There are fewer of those beaches than on Sithonia but there's enough to have an interesting holiday. These are our favorites.

Sani Beach mostly belongs to the luxurious hotel complex Sani Resort. This is one of the most beautiful beaches on Kassandra, with white sand, a shoal and a turquoise sea, and near the beach there is a protected area because of rare bird species which have decided to make it their home. The only part of the beach that's available for visitors who are not guests of the complex is the one in front of the Anemos cafe. This part is often crowded, especially during the weekend, when many Thessalonians come there. During the holiday season a parking spot can be charged up to 20 euros (included with the complex entrance fee), while free parking is possible at 400-500 m away from the beach. The resort is worth visiting; it has a wonderful park that you can go for a walk in, you can visit their church and a luxurious marina and swim or sunbathe at the really beautiful beach. At Sani beach you can also witness a very nice sunset. Sani is one of the examples of beaches that truly are top quality, and it can definitely compete with any beach of Sithonia, but the most of it, unfortunately, belongs to the hotel.

Siviri is also situated on the west coast of Kassandra. This place is famous for its long beach and fine sand and is ideal for families with children. The seaside promenade is beautifully decorated, so you can spend a nice day during the summer on the beach of Siviri.

Aigeopelagitika is one of the most beautiful beaches of Kassandra. It is situated in Possidi and it's a few kilometers long and very wide beach. It's sandy with a gradual depth and shoal. The beach is in a lee, so the sea is always calm. You can enjoy some gorgeous sunsets on this beach. It's organized, but it has much more space for visitors with their own equipment. The beach is never crowded because it's very big, so you can always enjoy the peace. There is a well-known and very popular bar called Cocus, and few more modern beach bars.
The way to the top of the bank is tiring, because there is no shade and we are not sure it is worth going there.

Possidi Cape (Faros) beach in Possidi is actually a sandbar that stretches deep into the sea. It's a really interesting part of the coast, a miniature sandy peninsula. Vehicles are parked at the beginning of the sandbar, near the camp and the famous lighthouse, so you have to continue on foot to the beach. The beach is not arranged, there are neither beach bars nor sunbeds, so it is necessary to take food, water and parasols. At the beginning of the sandbar you'll feel like you're in a sandy desert, but as you approach the peak you will be stunned but the fact that the sea is on both sides of the sandbar. It often happens that one side (towards Possidi) is windy, while the other (towards Aigeopelagitika) is very quiet.

Chrousso Bay is in fact a big beach with a lot of bars. The beach is also called Paliouri, because it is right next to this place. The name Xenia can also be used for this beach, as well as Koursaros, Blue fish, Cabana, Lefki Ammos beach, Poumpas, Seazon and all of these names were given after bars that exist or used to exist on this beach. Xenia is the most commonly used name. This is one of the most beautiful beaches on Kassandra. It is recognizable by its fine flour-like sand and a very long shoal extending up to 30 m into the water. The water is very clean and clear, and the sea is calm. This beach is a paradise for children. The most beautiful part of the beach, the part with the finest sand, is on the right, looking towards the sea, in front of Seazon bar, close to a small marina where boats depart for cruises. This part has no more natural shade, and it's also crowded, which is something this beach is known for as well. The crowd is the biggest during the weekend and the periods when tourist ships arrive from Sithonia and the rest of Kassandra. The mentioned bars are placed toward Paliouri and they're all beautifully organized and spacious, with a parking space behind them. On the beach there's also a camping site, a luxurious hotel, as well as water sports amenities. The beach is perfect for families with young children.
Many of these bars require reservations during July and August and the prices are quite high. This summer, we most often went to the beach bar Poumpas, which has slightly lower prices than the others and less crowds, and the sea in front of the bar is equally beautiful.

Going further towards Pefkohori, after Paliouri, we'll come across another large bay called Golden beach. It's a beach similar to Xenia (Paliouri), except that instead of fine sand it has small or somewhat larger gravel. This beach is less crowded and more peaceful, situated in a lee, so there are no waves or wind. The water is unrealistically clean and quiet, and in the rear of the beach there's a forest. The beach has a little bit of natural shade, so you should get there early. The depth is gradual, so this beach is also good for families with children. The best part of the beach or the part with the best water entrance (without stones) is the rightmost part of the beach, looking toward the sea. The beach has some organizes parts, but there's much more space for people who carry their own equipment.

Kriopigi it doesn't have a nice city beach, but about a kilometer after Kriopigi towards Kallithea, a very nice coast begins.

Just one kilometer from Kriopigi, in front of the Eos Apartments (the former Pefka Villa) and up to the Alexander The Great Hotel, there is a very beautiful beach with turquoise and clear water. The beach in front of Eos apartments is sandy, the depth is gradual, and there is plenty of natural shade on the beach. The only downside is the rather steep path and stairs to it, the lack of parking (you need to park along a narrow road), and the sun sets early, so in September it's already a bit cold after 4 pm. On the other hand, it is fresh and pleasant on this beach even when the temperatures are highest, and there is shade in the water, so it is also suitable for small children who would like to avoid the strong sun. There are no facilities on the beach, so be sure to bring water and food with you.

That stretch between Kallithea and Kriopigi is very interesting, there are many beaches and wild bays. We will mention two larger beaches. The first is between the Hotel Alexander the Great and the Agora restaurant. It is called Lefki Peristera. The best way to find it is to follow the sign to the Agora restaurant. The restaurant has a large parking lot where you can leave your car, and then when you go down to the shore in front of the beach, go left towards the Alexander The Great Hotel. Somewhere in the middle of the beach is a wide free part, there is also some natural shade.

The second beach on this stretch is next to the Aktaion cafe. Follow the sign to the cafe, park your car in their parking lot which has plenty of shade, get off next to the cafe and go left along the beach to the part you like best. There is shade and free space for sunbeds, but staying in the garden of this cafe is also wonderful because there is a lot of shade, a nice lawn, so you can place your towels in the shade and enjoy the view of the sea. This is one of our favorite cafes.
Kallithea has one of the most beautiful beaches of Kassandra. The beach is long, with several meters of shoal, and a turquoise sea. The sand is very fine and soft, and the sea is beautiful and clear. The right part of the city beach in Kallithea (towards Kriopigi) is slightly worse than the left one (in front of Zeus and Margarita Sea Side hotels), because of the rocks in the water and because the beach is a little narrower, but that makes it less crowded, and lets it have nicer bars and more greenery in the rear.
