Nea Skioni: A peaceful port and guardian of tradition on Kassandra
Nea Skioni is a fishing town in the south-west of Kasandra, about 120km from Thessaloniki. It’s a favourite destination of all those who’d want to enjoy a peaceful holiday in a place that kept the traditional spirit, considering the fact that it’s not so touristically developed. Nea Skioni has all the contents necessary for a quality family vacation.
Beach and family facilities
The beach is decent, with the Blue Flag, it’s arranged, sandy on the shore and with a gradual depth. It’s the widest and most beautiful at the dock, because the entrance to the water is gravelly, unlike other parts of the beach that has medium-sized pebbles at the entrance to the water.
In case you feel like the crowd and nightlife, Hanioti is 8km away, and one of the most beaches on Kasandra- Egeopelagitika is only a few minutes by car away.
Nea Skioni has a small marina as well, so the stroll along the long paved promenade brings even more pleasure next to the anchored boats. There’s a nicely arranged part on the beach with toys for children on the sand, and next to the beach, there’s a nicely arranged park with benches to enjoy a beautiful view of the marina and the sea.
Fresh fish straight from the nets
In the hinterland of the beach, there’s a few restaurants and taverns famous for the excellent choice of fresh fish and seafood. Many people consider that the best and most affordable fish can be bought right in Nea Skioni.
There are several shops in the place that are quite well-equipped for supplying during the summer vacation, several bakeries, butchers, pastry shops and a private health clinic.
The perfect base for exploration
At 2 km from the strict center there is an Orthodox church that was built in the 16th century. It is located right next to the road and you can always stop by and refresh yourself in the shade in the yard.
Nea Skioni is also a great base for touring Kassandra, as the places and beaches on the west and south side of Kassandra are equally accessible. It’s also great if you want a quiet summer vacation, with beautiful sunsets, with no loud music and the crowd on the beach and in the city. But if you prefer places with lots of amenities, crowds, a full boardwalk and lots of shops, boutiques, gift shops, restaurants and patisseries, then Nea Skioni is not a good choice for you.
