The Drenia Islands consist of six small islets, located just two nautical miles from the mainland, opposite the charming town of Ouranoupoli and southeast of the island of Ammouliani. Drenia is the largest island, followed by the slightly smaller island of Pena, while the other four islets—Tigani, Pontiki, Feti, and Artemis—resemble rocky reefs rising from the sea, bathing in sunlight and forming a natural lagoon accessible only to small boats.

Among locals, the Drenia Islands are known as the “Donkey Islands.” In the past, many locals owned donkeys that helped with heavy physical work. When the donkeys grew old, their owners would bring them to the Donkey Islands to live out their days.

You can reach the Drenia Islands from Ouranoupoli, either by boat or by renting a small boat that does not require a license. Boats depart daily from 10 AM every 30 minutes until 7 PM. In the 2024 season, the return ticket price was 7€, including sunbeds and umbrellas at the left beach bar, as seen from the sea. Boat rental prices in the 2024 season ranged from 60€ per day depending on the type of boat, with fuel costs paid separately.

The small, picturesque island of Drenia is an increasingly popular destination for day trips among many tourists who appreciate natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. Surrounded by several small islets, which serve as a natural barrier against the wind and waves, this vivid lagoon is known for its beautiful beach with crystal-clear waters and many hidden coves with untouched nature and a rich underwater world, making it an ideal destination for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts. If you enjoy exploring rocky coves or diving, please be cautious, as many boats constantly circulate near these islands, so a high level of vigilance is necessary.

This tiny island also has a water park, guaranteeing fun for your children.

The beach has one restaurant and two beach bars where you can refresh yourself or enjoy traditional Greek specialties at affordable prices, with facilities that also offer changing cabins, showers, and toilets.

The Drenia Islands are the perfect choice for a day trip. They are an escape for relaxation away from the crowds. Swim in crystal-clear waters with views of Mount Athos and the island of Ammouliani, and create unforgettable memories you’ll cherish.
