Kefalonia is a perfect choice for couples and families because of its fantastic and clean beaches, unspoiled nature and safe and turquoise sea.

Southern part of the island is generally urban and inhabited, so you can find there a lot of accommodations for renting. It has a of sandy beaches stretching along its coast, many of them are only reachable by sea or narrow and steep paths. We selected several beaches in Southern part of the island, which we are recommending for visit if you have accommodation nearby or you find yourself there during your island tour.

Lourdas Beach is located half way from Argostoli to Skala. It is a sandy beach with reach vegetation behind it, fantastic blue sea and combination of fine sand and white rubble. This beach has ‘Blue Flag’ for clean sea and coast nearby. One part of Lourdas Beach is covered with sunbeds and umbrellas and local beach bar and the other part of the beach is available for guests that bring their own equipment to the beach. Besides shower, other facilities do not exist. Along the main road passing just above the beach you can find stores and markets. Beach is connected to towns by public transportation (bus). The parking for cars is available along the main road.

If you go 2km from Lourdata towards Argostoli you will find Trapezaki Beach. It is a narrow beach located 15km Southwest from Argostoli. This one ordinary beach,very quiet and peaceful, easy accessible by car also connected with Argostoli by bus. Near Trapezaki Beach there is a small public parking, but you can park also along the road near the beach. You can reach the beach by foot using steep and narrow path. On the beach there is a tavern from which during the season you can listen to very nice music and of course enjoy local specialties. Entrance in the sea is moderate and it is ideal for children. Near tavern there are sunbeds and umbrellas and little further you can find free space if you have your own beach equipment.

Agios Thomas is a small beach separated in two parts by a large rock in the middle. It is located near Karavados village, 15km from Argostoli. First part of the beach is with fine sand and the other is covered with rocks and is reachable by a narrow path along the coast. Above the beach there is a cafe bar with very comfortable armchairs and fantastic view towards the sea. Both parts are surrounded with a lot of trees that create shade and fantastic ambiance.

Next stops are two smaller beaches, near to Passada port, that connects during summer Kefalonia with Zakynthos. On one side of the port there is a beach Vrisi, small sandy beach with large rocks behind it. The beach is reachable from the main road by small and steep stairs. The parking space available is very small and for limited number of cars. Vrisi has a lot of naturally created shade from trees and rocks.
On the other side of the Passada there is Ammos Beach. Also very small, sandy, surrounded by high rocks along its whole length. Left and right from the beach you can find large rocks, perfect for diving.

Avitos Beach is a long sandy beach, perfect choice for children. It is surrounded by olive and lemon trees. Like elsewhere in the island here also you have to reach the beach using curly local roads but the pleasure that provides is worth of effort. You can bring your own beach equipment or you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas (10e per set per day). Right on the beach there is a beach bar and also a tavern, where you can enjoy your lunch or dinner. This beach has nests of rare turtles Carreta Carreta.

In Svoronata area, near Domata village, is located Ai Helis Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Southern Kefalonia. It is a sandy beach. It is well organized, it has canteen (snack bar) sunbeds and umbrellas, showers and large volleyball court. It is surrounded with many trees that create shade. The beach is reachable by stairs on the right side, where you can park your car and by small dusty path on the left side. Entrance in the water is very deep and it is not recommended for children. There is also large part of the beach available for guests who use their own beach equipment. During the summer many parties are organized there, also tournaments in beach volleyball and badminton.
