Ammouliani Island, the only inhabited island of Halkidiki, is renowned for its stunning beaches with crystal-clear waters and golden sands. Ammouliani is a small island that, thanks to its size, is easy to explore and discover. From the island’s port, boats often depart for hidden coves and nearby uninhabited Drenia islets, also known for their fantastic beaches.

If you haven’t brought your car to the island, you can reach the most beautiful and famous beaches by renting a scooter or using organized shuttle services, which will take you from the ferry port to some of the island’s most stunning beaches.

A must-visit during your summer adventure exploring the island should include, as per our recommendation, the following beaches:

Alikes is the most famous and beautiful beach on Ammouliani Island.

Located in the heart of the Aegean Sea and surrounded by pine trees offering natural shade, Alikes is the pearl of Ammouliani Island, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and numerous amenities. Situated on the southeastern part of the island, it is just 2.4 km from the port and easily accessible by car, scooter, or shuttle service.

The beach has several parking areas along its length, but they are usually full, so we recommend arriving early if you want to secure a spot.

The soft, golden sand stretches along the shore and under the water, merging with the shallow, crystal-clear, turquoise sea, creating a setting perfect for unforgettable sun-soaked moments of joy and family-friendly activities. If you enjoy an active vacation with various water sports, such as renting boats, windsurfing, kayaking, paddle boating, or snorkeling in the clear waters, this beach is ideal for you.

Most of the beach is organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent, typically with a purchase from the beach bars. Visitors with their equipment can also find their spot here. Facilities like showers, toilets, and changing rooms are available to all guests.

Alikes is the island’s most visited beach, so we recommend exploring other locations if you’re not a fan of crowds. Note that many boats are anchored near the shore, which might pose a challenge even for experienced swimmers.

Visitors can refresh themselves at the beach bars and nearby restaurants, enjoying ice cream, traditional Greek dishes, fresh seafood, and locally produced wines.

Camping enthusiasts will be pleased with the option of staying in a small, tranquil campsite close to the beach, offering an ideal mix of golden sands, turquoise waters, and lush greenery.

Alikes is the perfect place to create unforgettable memories and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, enjoying the sun, golden sands, and turquoise sea with the scent of pines and the sound of soft music from nearby bars.

Agios Georgios Beach

Located on the southeastern part of Ammouliani Island, Agios Georgios Beach is accessible via a road that starts at the port where ferries arrive. After 3 km, the road becomes a 600-meter-long dirt path.

Apart from parking areas belonging to the taverns and bars in the area, there are no other designated parking spaces, but due to the relatively lower traffic on this beach compared to others on the island, you can usually park along the side of the road.

This beach offers a peaceful setting, perfect for those seeking natural beauty. The fine golden sand and shallow, crystal-clear turquoise water, rich in marine life, make it an ideal destination, especially for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts, so we recommend bringing your snorkeling gear to fully experience the underwater world. The left side of the beach, when facing the sea, is separated from the dirt road by a strip of greenery, creating a peaceful oasis for relaxation and enjoying the natural shade, while the right side is directly adjacent to the road.

Agios Georgios is partially organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas available through the beach bars, typically offered with a drink order. There is also plenty of space for visitors with their equipment.

At the taverns and bars, you can refresh yourself and taste traditional Greek dishes. The area is particularly known for its fresh fish, so seafood lovers can enjoy a variety of fresh maritime delicacies.

If you prefer smaller beaches with a peaceful and natural environment, Agios Georgios is the perfect choice for you.

Megali Ammos Beach

Megali Ammos is the southernmost beach on Ammouliani Island. The quickest route to this beach starts from the port where ferries arrive, and after 3 km, it becomes a 1.4 km long dirt road that winds along the coast, offering stunning views of the island’s picturesque landscapes. If driving slowly and navigating the dusty terrain is not your ideal activity, you may want to explore other more accessible locations. However, if you decide to visit, the breathtaking view of the beach from the hilltop will make the journey worthwhile.

The beach’s immediate surroundings feature a natural pine tree shade, with an unorganized parking area. Due to the beach’s popularity during the season, there are often not enough parking spots, so it’s recommended to arrive early to secure a space.

Megali Ammos Beach is amphitheater-shaped, with sculptural rock formations at its ends, offering views of the Drenia Islands and the iconic Uranopolis tower. Far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, with the finest golden sand on both the shore and the sea floor, and shallow, crystal-clear turquoise water that transitions into deeper blue tones, this beach truly deserves its title as the “tropical paradise” of Ammouliani. It is an ideal choice for all generations, especially families with young children.

The beach is organized but not overcrowded, with sunbeds and umbrellas available through one of the two beach bars, and with plenty of space for visitors with their equipment, so this beach will make you want to return again and again.

Above the beach, on a hill, there is a taverna offering a fantastic view of the turquoise waters of the lagoon, where you can refresh yourself or enjoy traditional Greek dishes and seafood.

Megali Ammos Beach will captivate you with its charm and simplicity, natural beauty, and tranquility, creating memories that will feel like the most beautiful postcards.

Karagatsia Beach

Karagatsia Beach is located on the northwestern coast of Ammouliani Island, 3.2 km away from the port where the ferries arrive. Nestled in a bay and surrounded by green hills full of willows, from which the beach gets its name, it is sheltered from the wind and rarely has waves, making it a perfect choice for you and your little ones.

There is a small parking area in the shade behind the beach, so it is recommended to arrive early if you want to secure a parking spot.

Known for its untouched nature, golden sand both on the shore and the sea floor, and clear, gradually deepening water, Karagatsia Beach is less crowded than the other beaches on the island, making it an ideal choice for those seeking peace, privacy, and a break from the crowds. In the far left part of the beach, facing the sea, there is a water amusement park that will guarantee fun and entertainment for your kids.

The central part of the beach is organized, with sunbeds and umbrellas available through the beach bar, priced at 15€ per set in the 2024 season. For those with their equipment, there is plenty of space on both the left and right sides of the organized area.

The beach bar offers a variety of refreshing drinks, ice cream, and light meals, so if you want to relax to the sounds of soothing music, you’re welcome to enjoy.

Karagatsia is undoubtedly the best choice for those who want to enjoy a peaceful environment and beautiful sunsets.
