Arriving at Tasos but do not know where is best to stay?

You’re not alone. It is the most common question we get. Let’s try to clarify a bit.

The largest towns on Thassos are Limenas (the capital), Limenaria (the second largest), Skala Potamia, Golden beach (Skala Panagia) and Potos. In our opinion, only these places offer all facilities for passive vacation without needed to use a car for shopping in other places or to go swimming.

How to choose from these five? We think there is a big difference between them and that should make the judgment on the accommodation type that you found regardless of where it is located in these five places.

Limenas offers more facilities than other places, but it has a harbor, and there are fewer accommodations near the beach. Limenas has the best arranged and the longest promenade and near Limenas are some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. More about that you can check out here.

Skala Potamia is a quiet family place and has a more beautiful city beach than others. It’s near Limenas so the facilities of the capital are easily available, and Skala Panagia is a short walk away. Skala Panagia and Skala Potamia are connected places and together they are located in Golden beach bay 3km long. They have the advantage of a long, sandy beach, one of the most beautiful on the island. Ideal for quiet, family holidays. These places have the highest quality of accommodation because they are recently built, but the accommodation is a bit more expensive. There is a traditional Panagia village, and if you are a fan of walking along the coast you can walk the whole bay.
The east coast of Thassos is known for its the most beautiful beaches, so the Skala Potamia and the Skala Panagia are good as a base for visiting the island. These places are very peaceful and will not suit those who like lively places in the evenings or young people who like nightlife. You can read more about the east coast of Thassos here.

Golden Beach is also close to Limenas (5 minutes drive), a few minutes walk from the Skala Potamia and sufficient of itself for a great holiday because it has one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

If you decide for the south of island, Potos and Limenaria are so close that it is absolutely irrelevant which of the two places you choose. Potos has a bit better public beach but Limenaria has much longer and less crowded promenade. From Limenaria to Potos you arrive in 5 minutes drive, and you can even walk (4-5km). All facilities of both places are available to you regardless of whether your base is in Limenaria or in Potos. The advantage of the south is the nicer sunsets and longer days, and Potos is very lively in the evening, having some special atmosphere and charm, which is one of the reasons why many choose it.Near Potos and Limenaria are some of the most beautiful beaches - San Antonio, Trypiti, Psili Ammos, Notos, Rosso Gremos, Pefkari. Check out more about beaches on the south here.

If you want a real vacation and fewer tourists, then you can choose from places on the west coast like Skala Sotiros, Skala Rachoni, Skala Kallirachi or fishing place Skala Maries. These are small places, with beautiful sunsets and an authentic Greek atmosphere. The most beautiful of them is Skala Sotiros, but also more developed in tourism than other places on the west coast. In the west, Dasilio is interesting - a part of Prinos that is tucked into a pine forest. Read more about it here.

If you want a place in isolation from the crowd and surrounded by pine trees, then Kinira on the east side may be the ideal choice. Located on the east side it is close to many beautiful beaches and it is not so far from Limenas, Skala Potamia and Panagia village too.

On the north of the island is Pachis, which is ideal for all natural shade beach lovers. Although it has become more popular in recent years, and as a result, the crowds on the beach are bigger, Pachis continues to be a haven for lovers of peaceful holidays along the fantastic pine-tree beach right by the sea. It has almost no facilities but is only 8km away from the capital and 1km from the Skala Rachoni. Check out more about Pachis beach here.

Lately, small places that are close to larger ones have become more popular. That case is with Pefkari, who has its peace but is very close to Potos (less than 2 kilometers), Trypiti is close to Limenaria (3km), Astris and Psili Ammos are close to Potos (4-5km). Aliki is a story to itself, has a very few accommodations, but a nice beach so many choose to settle right near it.

At the end, the volume of the island is only 92km and all beaches and places are close and easily accessible to tourists. Wherever you are, you will be welcomed with a cheerful spirit and plenty of beautiful beaches on any side.
