Athos, the third peninsula of Halkidiki, is less popular than Kassandra and Sithonia, mainly because a large part of the peninsula is occupied by the Holy Mountain – the spiritual center of Orthodox monasticism. However, Athos offers numerous attractions and natural beauties worth visiting and exploring.

An ideal choice for a peaceful day in the sun is some of the most popular beaches on this peninsula, such as Komitsa, Kakoudia, Legend and Xiropotamos beaches, Voulitsa, as well as the beaches near Olympiada.

The most popular resorts are Ierissos – a charming place that offers an authentic Greek hospitality experience, perfect for family vacations; Nea Rodha – a place with beautiful beaches, ideal for a peaceful retreat; and Ouranoupolis – a village known for its fishing tradition, beautiful beaches, and a rich selection of restaurants and shops.

The only inhabited island in this region, Ammouliani, is a true oasis with numerous beaches, such as Alikes, Karagatsia, Agios Georgios, and Megali Ammos. The island is easily accessible by ferry from Tripiti and is known for its tranquil environment and crystal-clear waters.

The Drenia Islands, also known as “Donkey Islands,” are perfect for a day trip by boat, where you’ll find untouched beaches and a peaceful setting, ideal for swimming and diving.

Located near Ierissos, the Kakovo Monastery, a dependency of the Hilandar Monastery, is a spiritual oasis offering visitors a peaceful environment for rest and exploring natural beauties, such as ponds and green areas. We recommend making it a mandatory stop on your journey, as well as the ancient city of Stagira, which is considered the birthplace of Aristotle and contains an interactive park.

Boat trips along the coast of the Holy Mountain provide a spectacular view of the imposing monasteries perched on cliffs, as well as the untouched nature of this special place.

Athos offers a unique combination of pristine nature, rich culture, and spiritual tradition. Whether you are looking for beautiful beaches, peaceful towns, or an opportunity for a spiritual experience, this peninsula has something for everyone. Combine relaxation on the beach with exploring the history and culture of this undiscovered gem of Halkidiki!
